چکیده

Abstract We construct tree-level four-particle open-string amplitudes relevant to dilepton and diphoton production at hadron colliders. We expand the amplitudes into string resonance (SR) contributions and compare the total cross-section through the first SR with the Z ′ search at the Tevatron. We establish a current lower bound based on the CDF Run I results on the string scale to be about 1.1− 2.1 TeV, and it can be improved to about 1.5 − 3 TeV with 2 fb−1. At the LHC, we investigate the properties of signals induced by string resonances in dilepton and diphoton processes. We demonstrate the unique aspects of SR-induced signals distinguishable from other new physics, such as the angular distributions and forward-backward asymmetry. A 95% C.L. lower bound can be reached at the LHC for MS > 8.2− 10 TeV with an integrated luminosity of 300 fb−1. We emphasize the generic features and profound implications of the amplitude construction.

Study of highly-excited string states at the Large Hadron Collider

In TeV-scale gravity scenarios with large extra dimensions, black holes may be produced at future colliders. Good arguments have been made for why general relativistic black holes may be just out of reach of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). However, in weaklycoupled string theory, highly excited string states – string balls – could be produced at the LHC with high rates and decay thermally, not...

Production of Kaluza - Klein States at Future Colliders

Perturbative breaking of supersymmetry in four-dimensional string theories predict in general the existence of new large dimensions at the TeV scale. Such large dimensions lie in a domain of energies accessible to particle accelerators. Their main signature is the production of Kaluza-Klein excitations which can be detected at future colliders. We study this possibility for hadron colliders (TE...

Dijet Production at Hadron Colliders in Theories with Large Extra Dimensions

We consider the production of high invariant mass jet pairs at hadron colliders as a test for TeV scale gravitational effects. We find that this signal can probe effective Planck masses of about 10 TeV at the LHC with center of mass energy of 14 TeV and 1.5 TeV at the Tevatron with center of mass energy of 2 TeV . These results are compared to analogous scattering processes at leptonic collider...

Direct collider signatures of large extra dimensions

The realization of low (TeV) scale strings usually requires the existence of large (TeV) extra dimensions where gauge bosons live. The direct production of Kaluza–Klein excitations of the photon and Z–boson at present and future colliders is studied in this work. At the LEPII, NLC and Tevatron colliders, these Kaluza–Klein modes lead to deviations from the standard model cross-sections, which p...
